Website idea

Well this is what i have got to so far! im not completely happy with it but i am happy with individual aspects of it. My weakness has always been putting bits together so it looks good, again i have fallen at the last hurdle! i think when i get back to uni and have some help and advice from some tutors and my friends this will over all be much more successful. Unfortunately also i have not been able to create the website as i dont no how which is very frustrating! especially when i see so many people have made them over the summer. There is definitely something missing from them and i just cant quiet grasp what so any comments will be very helpful :) cheers

Lilla Rogers

Whilst looking on Carolyn Gavins blog (another favourite illustrator) i saw an interesting link to this page, Lilla Rogers is an illustration agency that represents illustrators internationally. Iv posted this link not only for the references but their website is so fun and interactive, its got a really handmade feel to it which i really like. I especially like the artists page it reminds me of a family tree. This is the sort of look i wanted for my website, but when ever i sit down to drawn something handmade to scan in which looks in this similar style i always feel it looks so unprofessional, but this website seems to have hit it somehow it just makes you want to look at it all. Iv just had a quick look through the rest of the illustrators............... i love them all and want to be them and blog them! jealous is not the word! ha

I almost forgot to add i think this could be a useful source for me to send my work to and get some feedback especially as iv heard nothing from everyone else i have contacted!

Kate Slater

Kate Slater is my new all time favourite Illustrator! she only graduated in 08 but she has achieved so much already, i am now beginning to aspire to her level or craftsmanship! She works with flat collage of paper cut outs and uses wire to suspend the illustrations. Looking through her portfolio has really opened my eyes to see that my style of work can be spread across a much larger range of media than i first thought and has definitely given me a kick into developing my collage style further rather than just touching on in, i can take it further and still have a really professional finish!

CV

I mention on earlier posts i wanted my identity illustrations and logos to work across a range of different identity medias, the above it my current final resolution for my CV i have struggled with the content but this is something i want to look at with John when we return in September. I did play around with using the logo but it didn't really seem to sit right at all. This definitely pushes me to think i need to re look at this, at the moment id really like to make things more paper and collage based.

Wallpaper & Decals

I came across this website today whilst getting ideas for my own briefs, i posted earlier a fabric website i had found and mentioned i wanted to further my pattern work in 3rd year, another aspect of me doing this is wall paper design or decals, this website is full of fun designs and are still in keeping with my style of work. Obviously i dont know yet, but i do feel i would really enjoy designing more work like this on a full time basis. Looking at designs like this gets me excited to start back again!

Quirky fabric patterns

I recently found this cute website that sells all sorts of quirky little patterned fabric, i really like this sort of thing and find it quite exciting which is also quite random! however the more i look at these types of fabrics and patterns what ever they may be used for i always think i want to design something like that! so i have decided that is just what i am going to do in my 3rd year :)

Type for identity

I mentioned earlier that i really liked the small circular patterns and as they weren't working alone i decided to see if they worked well with a similar pattern applied to text. I have firstly done my initials as there are only two letters i think this could possibly be used for a logo across a range of medias and still be recogniseable, i do like these but i want to try and add more pattern to them to make them more interesting.

I like my full name, but i need to work out the coloring theme as some of the letters look better than others and again this may not work in a body of text, perhaps just my name could be patterned and the rest plain. I need to work out all these things working with the patterns and other text before i can really make any final decisions.

Type for identity

These are a selection of some of the type i have done that work the beast, i definitely want to keep in with the same theme of handmade/hand drawn as with the illustrations, some of these work better than others. However hear they stand alone i think what i need to do it mix them in with the illustrations and the full set of text to see how they work, as only the logo would possibly hold my name, some of these would not be legible on a few lines of text.

Developing my identity

I have started to put together some of the smaller patterns to make a larger image to be used on the backs of my business cards. Below are the first 3, different colours can be applied just for the sake of testing iv used the colours or collage i had already used as some of them take ages to do. However non of these have any text on them yet or any type faces have been decided and these will eventually need to work along with type, whether it be on the same page/side or to represent my self on the logo.

Individually i think these work much better as a whole i dont like this, but i do really like them so i need to spend some more time looking at this. I think if i did a blacked pattern using similar marks it may work better than lots of little circles. This mark making may also look really good applied to text, i think ill also have a go at doing this next this could link the logo to the text.

There is something i really really like about this pattern, i do feel if i use it its more something i would use on the side of the card where my details are, rather than the backside of the card. So if i wanted to use this type of pattern i would have to find something to fit in on the other side without it all being/looking too much. A second down side to this is it doesn't stand alone very well to be used as a logo so i would also need to re think this.

I originally didn't like this as a stand alone logo, but as a whole grouped pattern i really like it and its the sort of think i was thinking for the back side of the business card. I think further development work of this as a solid pattern and stand alone logo is needed first.

Developing my identity

For a while i have been thinking about how to develop my identity in a way that it represents me and my work. I have towards the end of year 2 started to develop a more individual style. I also want to show a small aspect of my interest through the design i use. It will need to work across a range of media, as i love pattern work and collage i wanted to push forward with this especially as i haven't had the chance to continue with this for a while. I feel the best way for my 'identity' to work across a range of media and to keep the same theme i have started with a symbol. Im not sure how exactly i will be using this, but a the moment i think i want one of the symbols to work alone as a logo but then to be repeated as a large pattern for the business cards. Below are a selection i feel are the best so far i have achieve using either solid colour or a range of mixed collage.
